Renewable Energy

Serentica Renewables has secured nearly USD 1.2 billion through three financing transactions, marking one of the largest capital raises in India's renewable energy sector. The fresh funds will be used to expand the company's clean energy portfolio, refinance acquisition-related debt and support the completion of delayed renewable energy projects as demand for green power from industrial consumers continues to rise.

The KKR-backed renewable energy company is accelerating investments in solar, wind and hybrid projects to strengthen its position in India's fast-growing clean energy market. The financing comes at a time when developers are scaling up capacity to meet the country's energy transition goals while addressing execution challenges and financing costs.

Funding To Support Expansion And Debt Refinancing
According to people familiar with the matter, the latest fundraising will enable Serentica to expand renewable generation capacity while refinancing debt taken for previous acquisitions. The capital will also help the company advance projects that have witnessed delays, ensuring faster commissioning of assets and improved financial flexibility.

Serentica has been steadily expanding its renewable energy footprint through utility-scale solar, wind and hybrid projects aimed primarily at supplying clean electricity to commercial and industrial customers. Earlier this month, the company also secured financing from an Asian Development Bank-led consortium for a hybrid renewable energy project in Karnataka, underscoring continued investor confidence in its growth strategy.

India's renewable energy sector has witnessed robust investment activity as the country pushes towards its long-term clean energy targets and seeks to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. Large funding rounds have become increasingly important for developers as they scale projects requiring significant upfront capital and long development timelines.

Backed by global investment firm KKR, Serentica has emerged as one of the prominent renewable energy platforms catering to industrial decarbonisation. The latest financing is expected to strengthen its balance sheet, accelerate capacity additions and reinforce its role in supporting India's transition towards cleaner sources of power while meeting the growing electricity requirements of energy-intensive industries.
